The Genuine Optimist Pre-Production

Welcome to my senior seminar blog. Below will be a detailed map of the process I took in creating my senior seminar final project.

March 28th 2016
As I started working with Kieth Kelsch it became clear that he and I had a similar vision to help change america.  The Political world is filled with people who will seek to lie, cheat and manipulate their way into positions of authority. The class used the book The Political Optimist.

The book taught us a deep understanding of voice and civility and how it works public discourse and society.I was fortunate to take this class and it has truly prepared me for the future.

What has this all got to do with my Senior Seminar? Well, Kieth Kelsch quickly saw my talents in his class as I would always fulfill the assignment through a video presentation. He took me under his wing and as my mentor we have created a series of episodic videos that introduce key concepts that will be found in his book he is writing call The Genuine Optimist.  I will show the pre production, production, and post production processes and techniques I used to create these episodes. I will also include links to the YouTube site where you can watch the finished product. My hope is that this book will change lives and that the episodes will be a gateway to introduce people to this amazing book through the viewing of this episodic series.

March 29th 2016 - Pre-Production

We prepared and created all of the necessary aspects of the series
-Logo

- Audio Introduction to each video

- Shot b-roll
A series of perspectives of Kieth talking no audio to cut between while music plays during the introduction voice over.
-  Made a shot list and screen play plan for the episode.
- Chose a location to shoot at
Kieth wanted to shoot in his tool shed. We ended up toward the end of the episode series shooting out in nature which we found quite beautiful and increased the visual ascetic appeal.
- Decided on lighting technique.
There was natural light coming in through his work shed.

- We chose equipment to use including microphone, camera, ect.
We used 2x Sony a6000's(top) and a ZoomH5(middle) and a lavaliere microphone(bottom). We used a clapper and synced the video and audio together in post.

Topic was chosen and written by Keith for every episode and collaboratively approved together.
